I looked at this machine and felt it was too small and underpowered (check the 3pt lift capacity) for my brush hog. (I have a heavy duty 6' machine). I finally bought a Kub. L3000dt. So far, I have hoged twice with no problems and done some loader work. The hydrostat version of this machine (L3010?) may be easier to use for the loader work but I am dammed scared of the this technology. (too many questions and problems reported on the boards for my liking). The hydro issue is a personal preference for me and may in fact be ok in the long run. The hydro I think is closer to the JD4xxx models and may not be a issue for you. Good luck.

Let me float a question: after I purchased a Kub. l3000dt, I added some water pump lub and conditioner to the radiator. This is the same stuff that I have been using in my cars for years. I called the Kub. dealer yesterday for his opinion and he felt this was not a problem. Was I over anal and did I do more harm than good?

I have two machines that get intermittent use, both with 2cyl gas 4 cycle engines. One is a ztr mower that gets used about 20 times during the summer. The other is a Gillette generator that gets used 2 or 3 times a year. I am thinking of using synthetic oil in both but have heard that this oil does not coat as well as pet. oils and that the motors could rust internally during long term storage. Has anybody had any experience with this?

Can anyone give me some advice on mower deck maintenance? I read in one of the posts that mixing diesel fuel with motor oil in a 75:25 ratio makes a good spray for the underside of the mower deck. This was done as a 'barrier' prior to mowing which allowed for an easier clean up. BRILLIANT ! (if it works...). Has any body done this? If so, does this mixture harm the painted surface? Are there other things that can be sprayed on instead of diesel fuel that might be a little more friendly to mother earth? Thanks for your ideas.

To the panel of experts....<br>What do you do to the fuel in the winter? Some of the posts referenced 'dee zol plus' as a preferred treatment but I have not been able to find it locally. Is this stuff so much better than the products that the local automotive stores carry? Thanks.

I mistyped in the above post. What I ment was that I was concerned that all of the JD machines were of lesser quality than in years past due to the 4XXX series problems. Just my gut feeling. Rich

The Keys dealer I spoke with was in Reynoldsville PA. I got his address/phone from the Kubota web site. There was also a Keys dealer in Clarion PA. I suppose that they are both part of the same company. You were right about their sales people not being customer friendly. When I asked the salesman to fax me a quote, he all but flat out refused. He was worried that I was a 'spy' from one of the other Kubota dealers. I am uncomfortable with dealing with anyone who will not put their offers in writing, espescially since this is a site unseen deal. At this point, even though he is the lowest dealer, I am probably not going to do business with him.

Thanks to all who responded. But what about service? I live in NJ and obviously Carver won't be able to do any of the warrenty work (I know, they never brake). Will local dealers be willing to work with me or will I have to pay through the nose? Has anyone crossed this bridge and like to share their thoughts? Thanks again, Rich.
